まちづくりの定義

まちづくりの定義。通常、まちづくりを定義する場合は、都市計画との違いなどの説明が続く。

「まちづくり」は単にハードの「街を造る」という意味ではない。これまで国家権力によって行われてきた都市計画に代わり、市民やその事務局である自治体を中心に、「まち」を自分たちの手で創る方向へ転換するための言葉である。^[1]

It is widely believed among planners in Japan that the recent spread of citizen participation in local environmental improvement efforts and in planning processes represents the most hopeful development in Japanese planning in many years. A wide variety of such practices are grouped together under the umbrella designation "machizukuri".^[2]
